Inducted in 1993 as a member of
the 1936 Great Britain Olympic Championship team. Defenceman
Jimmy Borland was born in Manchester on March 25th, 1911 and
learnt to play ice hockey in Montreal Canada. Returning to his native
country in 1933, he joined the Grosvenor House Canadians and was an
instrumental part in the team winning the English League title. The
following year, he was selected for the Great Britain side that finished
in 8th place in the World Championships staged in Milan –
scoring two goals in the tournament. He then took a year off from
playing hockey before returning to captain the Brighton Tigers in the
1935/36 season. Playing in three games for the ’36 Olympic and World
gold medal winning team, Borland score one goal. An
electrician by trade, Jimmy Borland spent just one further season in
